Become a Richmond Tree Steward

Classes will be every Tuesday evening
September 10 – November 19, 2024

 Applications for the 2024 Richmond Tree Steward Training Course will become available on our website July 1, 2024. We hope you will consider applying between July 1- July 30, 2024. In the meantime, see information about becoming a Tree Steward and our expectations for volunteers below.

Richmond Tree Stewards Training Course

Classes will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 pm Tuesday evenings:

9/17/2024    Tree Biology, Physiology and Environmental Factors

9/24/2024    Tree Identification: Characteristics and Subtle Clues

10/1/2024    Right Tree, Right Place

10/8/2024    Pruning Concepts and Theory

10/15/2024    Pruning Practice, Tools and Safety

10/22/2024    Planting, Tools, and Safety

10/29/2024    Invasive Species/Trees and the Watershed

11/5/2024    Break-No class due to Election Day

11/19/2024    Class Review and Final Class

Requirements for Becoming a Tree Steward

Complete the course, making up any classes you miss.

Over the next year, complete 20 volunteer hours working along with experienced stewards.

Complete a pruning and tree knowledge exam
